Individuals who have never been baptized enter into membership in the Roman Catholic Church through a process known as Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.I.C.A.) This is a wonderful process for becoming familiar with the practices and doctrine of the church usually in a communal setting.
The R.C.I.A process begins with Inquiry. A person has the opportunity to ask questions, if they have specific ones, or to begin to enter into an experience with others of listening, learning and conversation that may prompt questions. This depends on the needs of the individual. There is no commitment during inquiry - or all the way to the Sacrament of Baptism. At the time of Baptism a person makes a commitment of her/his own free will.
